- Description
- The June 25th fire started at the Korn Leather Factory at 55-65 Boston Street. An explosion of chemicals, used to create the 'tip finish' that creates a patent leather shine, started the fire in the Blubber Hollow district of Salem, the location of a strong leather industry. The first fire alarm sounded at 1:37 p.m. Had sprinklers been installed in the factory, the conflagration may have been averted.
