Collection of Petitions Against Slavery
This digital collection is comprised of various petitions against slavery dated from the early to mid 1840s. Petitions are addressed to the United States Congress by citizens of Essex County, Massachusetts; Boston, Massachusetts; and Cornish, Maine. The petitions espouse a number of anti-slavery causes, including: opposition to the entry of Texas and Florida as slave states; opposition to slavery in the District of Columbia; opposition to the interstate slave trade; and a general opposition to slavery.
