Indigenous Manuscripts
Explore the collection of Indigenous Manuscripts from the John Francis Stimson Papers. This series consists of manuscript memo books and loose-leaf notes written by Indigenous people who Stimson interviewed, including Paea a Avehe, Hapai, Fariua a Makitua, and Tama a Tama. Written in Paʻumotu, the language of the Tuamotu Archipelago, the notebooks cover a variety of content about the Tuamotus and surrounding islands, and some include hand-drawn sketches. The full series is in the process of being digitized.
